Five of the biggest games of 2027 spent all of 2026 running away from GTA 6. Every single one of them ran in the same direction. Now they have to fight each other in an empty bar called February, and your wallet is the bar tab.
By Ruan Martini, Daily Checkpoint, November 1, 2026

Let me set the scene properly, because this is the funniest story on the 2027 calendar and nobody is telling it straight. All through 2026, every big publisher on Earth did the same piece of math. GTA 6 lands on November 19, 2026, and nothing with a pulse releases next to that game. I keep our Coming Soon coverage updated here at the Checkpoint, and the evacuation was beautiful to watch. Nintendo cleared out by November 12, a full week early. Call of Duty, a franchise that treats mid November like a birthright, went in October. The December games waited until December 3 at the earliest, like a funeral procession giving the hearse room to pass. Everybody was very smart. Everybody was very careful.
And then they all hid in the same place.
February 2027 was supposed to be the safe house. Quiet month, far from November, plenty of clean air for one big game to stretch out in. The problem is that five different companies had the exact same idea at the exact same time, and the safe house is now extremely crowded. Between Thursday, February 4 and Tuesday, February 23, twenty days total, we get Metro 2039, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, God of War Laufey, Persona 4 Revival and Fable. Every one of those dates is confirmed by the publisher itself. This is not rumor season arithmetic. This is a cage match with a calendar, and I get to sit ringside with popcorn. So let us do this properly: the tale of the tape, a profile of each fighter, the part where I say out loud who eats whom, the wallet math, and then my official card, because a commentator who will not pick a winner is just a narrator with a microphone.
The Tale of the Tape
Thursday, February 4: Metro 2039 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC). Friday, February 12: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC). Tuesday, February 16: God of War Laufey (PS5). Thursday, February 18: Persona 4 Revival (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC). Tuesday, February 23: Fable (Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, day one on Game Pass).
Five heavyweights, three full price weekends in a row, and roughly four pay cycles if you are lucky. Now, the fighters.
First Bell: Metro 2039 (February 4)
Metro is the veteran who shows up early, says nothing, and starts wrapping his hands. 4A Games confirmed the date at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, and the pedigree is serious: Metro 2033, Last Light and Exodus built one of the most respected names in PC gaming, a series that sells atmosphere the way other games sell explosions. The promise here is a new mainline chapter in the tunnels and the ruins, from the studio that basically invented a genre mood and then watched everyone copy it for a decade.
Where it stands: Metro 2039 quietly has the best seat in the entire month. It opens the show on February 4 and gets eight full days as the only new giant in the room. It also fights in a different weight class: a grim, serious, single player shooter lives on a different shelf of your brain than fantasy RPGs, so it does not have to beat God of War for the same evening. Its crowd is loyal, patient and mostly on PC, and Metro fans have survived three fictional apocalypses already. A crowded release month does not scare people who voluntarily play games about gas mask filters running out.
The Legend in the Middle: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (February 12)
Lara Croft is the biggest name in this fight that your parents can recognize, and she arrives at the worst possible moment. Legacy of Atlantis comes from Crystal Dynamics with Amazon Games publishing, it arrives thirty years after the original Tomb Raider in 1996, and it was already delayed out of 2026 once, which means this February date is its second chance, not its victory lap. The promise is a series bridging return for the most famous adventurer in games, and the receipts are real: the Survivor trilogy showed a modern Lara can carry big games, and three decades of name recognition is a weapon nobody else in this month owns.
Where it stands: sandwiched. Eight days after Metro, four days before God of War, with the whole internet about to start screaming about a PlayStation exclusive. Lara also has one escape hatch nobody else in this fight has: a Switch 2 version at launch, a private audience on Nintendo hardware where none of the other four are standing that week. Hold that thought. It matters later.
The Heavyweight: God of War Laufey (February 16)
Here is the favorite, and it is not particularly close. God of War Laufey is a Faye led prequel from Santa Monica Studio, the story of Atreus’s mother, the original owner of the Leviathan Axe, set in the Norse saga before the events we played. Sony dated it at San Diego Comic Con 2026, the standard edition is $69.99, and pre orders opened back on September 29, 2026, which means this fight has been selling tickets for months already.
Now let me tell you about the Collector Box, because I think about it weekly. The Collector Box costs $149.99. It does not include the game. Read that again with me. One hundred and fifty dollars for the box, and the game is a separate purchase. Sony looked at the idea of a collector’s edition and invented collector’s furniture. It is DLC for your shelf. And here is the detail that should genuinely worry the other four fighters: Sony has already confirmed that a separate, Kratos led sequel is also in development. Laufey is not even this franchise’s main event. It is the warm up act, and the warm up act has a $150 box and a pre order head start. It is also PS5 only, which concentrates its entire audience onto one machine with zero distractions. Where it stands: it does not have to win February. It just has to not trip.
The Technician: Persona 4 Revival (February 18)
Persona does not fight like the others, and that is exactly what makes it dangerous. Persona 4 Revival is Atlus giving the beloved Persona 4 the full remake treatment, following the model that Persona 3 Reload already proved works: rebuild the classic, keep its soul, sell it to the faithful and the curious at the same time. The Persona audience does not impulse buy. They commit. A Persona game is not a weekend plan, it is a season of your life, a hundred hours of evenings spoken for before you even press start.
Where it stands: Revival does not need to win a single headline in February, because Persona games are built to sell for years, not weeks. The damage it does is invisible on a sales chart. Anyone who steps into the TV world on February 18 is still in there on February 23 when Fable arrives, waving at it from inside a dungeon. One scheduling note for Nintendo players: the Switch 2 version of Revival is listed later, on May 20, 2027, so if that is your machine, you are ringside for this whole fight with no skin in it. Enjoy the popcorn. The rest of us are getting billed.
The Main Event: Fable (February 23)
And now the reason this article exists. Fable is Playground Games, the Forza Horizon studio, rebooting Albion: you are the first Hero in a generation, reputation is everything, and the game is built around a Living Population of more than a thousand NPCs with their own lives, routines and opinions about you, all of it wrapped in the series’ British humour and an industrial quantity of chickens. That is the game. The story around the game is better.
Xbox moved Fable out of fall 2026 and said the quiet part in writing. The official line was about planning launches so Fable could have “the dedicated moment it deserves,” in a fall crowd that Xbox itself listed with GTA 6 at the front of it. Engadget’s headline called it exactly what it was: Fable dodges GTA VI with another delay. I laughed for a full minute. And now the game that ran from GTA 6 has to close a month that contains a God of War. You can run from November, my friend. February was waiting behind the door with a steel chair.
Two more receipts, because they are delicious. First: Fable launches day one on PS5. An Xbox flagship, on PlayStation, on day one, in the same week it fights a PlayStation exclusive for the same audience. 2027 is a strange and wonderful place. Second: it is day one on Game Pass, which rewrites its entire fight. On Xbox and PC, Fable does not ask for another $70 at the register. It asks for nothing, if your subscription is already paid. It is the only fighter in this month that can win by simply showing up. Oh, and one more: pre ordering the Premium Edition opens early access on February 18. February 18. The exact day Persona 4 Revival launches. Somebody in a meeting looked at that date, nodded slowly, and chose violence.
Who Eats Whom
Let us say the quiet parts in order. Laufey versus Fable is the title fight. One week apart, both of them big fantasy action RPGs with enormous worlds and enormous budgets, and Fable is on PS5 too, so on PlayStation this is a straight fight for the same wallet inside the same pay cycle. Fable’s Game Pass shield is real, but it only covers Xbox and PC. On Sony’s machine it is seventy dollars against seventy dollars, and one of them is God of War.
Persona is not stealing your money. It is stealing your hours, which in February is the same crime. Every evening inside Persona 4 Revival is an evening Fable does not get, and this audience finishes what it starts. Metro’s protection is genre, and it is genuine, but its clean air lasts eight days and then the shouting starts. Lara’s problem is pure arithmetic: nostalgia is powerful, her crowd spans generations, and her Switch 2 version gives her a whole store the others are not standing in, which might genuinely save her. But she is asking for the world’s attention four days before a God of War launch, with a franchise that has already used its one delay. If a single game in this month gets stepped on, the smart money is on the one standing between Metro and Kratos’s wife.
And underneath all of it, the honest truth nobody at these five publishers wants on a poster: every one of them is also fighting a three month old GTA 6 for your free time. I wrote a whole piece about why GTA 5 never dies, and its sequel is about to be the background radiation of your entire gaming life. These five are fighting for second place in your schedule. Second place pays extremely well when you are the only other game in the room. In February 2027, nobody is the only other game in the room.
The Wallet Math
Now the part where I hurt your feelings with numbers. God of War Laufey is confirmed at $69.99. If Metro 2039, Tomb Raider and Persona 4 Revival land at the same standard price as every other giant on this calendar, and I will believe a cheaper one when I see it, that is four games at $69.99: $279.96, call it $280 before tax. Add Fable at full price and the month tops out at $349.95. Call it $350. In twenty days. Three months after GTA 6 took its own $79.99 out of the same wallet, in the same winter when even the consoles got more expensive with age. February 2027 costs more than four copies of GTA 6.
The time math is worse than the money math, and money math at least lets you sell something. Persona alone can eat a month of evenings without asking permission. Fable is an open world built to be lived in. Laufey is a full God of War campaign. February has twenty eight days, five of them are spoken for before you open your wallet, and you, a human being with a job, do not have five games in you. Nobody does. Choosing is not optional this month. Choosing is the whole sport.
My Card
So here is my official card, ringside, on the record, ready to be wrong.
Number one: God of War Laufey, day one. I am a PlayStation player, this is Faye’s story from the studio that does not miss, and I have waited long enough to see the axe’s first owner get her own game. The Collector Box stays at the store. The empty one. It knows what it did.
Number two: Fable, day one on Game Pass. It costs me nothing extra, it is the most entertaining story on the calendar, and I need to meet these thousand NPCs and find out what Albion thinks of me. A game that fled GTA 6 deserves at least one honest witness.
Number three: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Lara gets my money, just not my February. This is a March game for me, possibly on Switch 2, where she has the stage to herself. Benched with respect, not cut from the team.
Number four: Metro 2039. I respect this series the way you respect a bear: deeply, sincerely, and from a distance. It is the PC crowd’s champion and it will get my money eventually, probably in a sale, probably played at night with the lights off, the way it deserves.
Number five: Persona 4 Revival. Last on my card and first in my fears. Not the worst game here, not close. It is the longest commitment here, and a man with a GTA 6 habit and a full time job has to ration his addictions. Persona fans, I envy you. You are braver people than me.
The Bell
Everybody ran from November, because November has a sun in it now and its name is GTA 6. They all ran to the same February, and somebody in this month is getting hurt. The beautiful part is that all five of these games are good enough, on paper, that I honestly cannot tell you which one. That is what a bloodbath actually is: not bad games dying in public, but good games colliding at full speed while the rest of us hold our wallets and try not to blink. I will be ringside for all of it, and our Coming Soon hub will track every date change, delay and casualty as the month gets closer, because if 2026 taught us anything, it is that this calendar is written in pencil.
Your turn. Give me your card in the comments: your day one, your bench, and your “absolutely not at that price.” I will be reading them with the popcorn I was promised.
